200 Likes Special: The Horror Movie Book Tag!!!

Do mine eyes deceive me? I logged on this morning to a notification saying I had achieved 200 TOTAL LIKES ON MY POSTS. This may not seem like much, I mean I didn’t win blogger of the year or anything because I’m hella bad at this stuff, but to me that is amazing! Even if it’s completely spread out over the many posts I’ve put out, this still means a lot to me. 200 likes deserves recognition, and so do the people who took the time to like any post I’ve written. You’re all awesome, as well as outstanding bloggers and great people. I look forward to the future ahead 🙂

So, to celebrate this totally unnecessary excitement for a completely menial achievement, I have decided to make my very first original book tag! I feel so EXCITED! As you can tell from the title, it’s called the Horror Movie Book Tag, based on my absolute love of horror films. Don’t worry if you can’t stand horror films or scary things, it’s not that spooky. Just a few fun categories to mess around with. And if you love horror, this is perfect for you!

Without further ado, let’s get into this tag of mine:

1. The Zombie Apocalypse:

A book you would save when civilization ends:

For me, I’m going to cheat and name a series. The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling  is a set of books that are just too important to lose. Whether I use them to keep me sane, or to gift the survivors of a recovering humanity, or simply bash away a few zombies, The Harry Potter series is super important to me and must be saved. 🙂

2. The Vampire:

A book you would stake through the heart (in whatever sense):

I’m going to go for a book that I disliked here, and that is Petals in the Wind by V.C. Andrews. I gave it 2/5 stars, because every single thing about this book disturbed me. Not in a “it’s supposed to disturb you, so it’s good” way, but in a “what did I just read?!” way.

3. The Haunted House: 

A book that still haunts you:

For this, I’m going to go with We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver. I was horrified after I finished reading it (in a good way! 5 stars, y’all) and I was left in a daze after. I’m still in a daze now to be honest, and don’t think I’ll ever get over it.

4. The Psychological Thriller: 

A book with a twist you did not see coming:

I’m definitely going to go with Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor. Obviously, I won’t spoil anything. But just know that when the twist was revealed, my mouth was hanging open in utter shock. Not a great look, let me tell you.

5. The Creepy Doll:

A book that seems innocent but isn’t:

I’m going to throw in The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. It seemed like such a sweet little book, which I finally read after watching the trailer for the film. But for such a short book it packed a lot of punch. There was so much depth within the simple story, and I was left a big, teary mess.

6. The Monster:

A book you could barely tackle/defeat (in whatever sense):

I’ll go with a positive one here: Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare. This last book in the Infernal Devices trilogy nearly destroyed me, and every five minutes I would storm downstairs and rage to my sister about how Clare was ripping out my heart at every chance she got. It was a monster of a book that played with my every emotion.

7. The Comedy-Horror:

A book with mixed genres that worked (or didn’t):

I’ll go for one that worked: The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness. I love this book so much, because it mixes two completely different genres- YA fantasy and YA contemporary- to give us a story about ordinary teens who just want to graduate before their town experiences another war between the “Chosen Ones” and external threats. It works so well!

8. The (Cliched) Teen Horror: 

A book you found super cliched/stereotypical:

I’m going with Matched by Ally Condie. There was really nothing about this book that I hadn’t read before: the “dystopian” future with some kind of choice-related conflict, the love triangle between the female protag, the guy she’s known all her life and the mysterious new boy, her role in the breakdown of a corrupt system, etc. etc. I couldn’t get into it at all.

9. The Demonic Possession:

A book so gripping you needed an exorcist to escape it:

There are so many I wish I could list, but I’m going to go with A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. I literally could not put this book down, I read it everywhere: at work, at the dinner table, at college, in bed, on the floor, on the roof (ok, maybe not those last two, but you get what I mean). I’m so impatient for the next novel, I’m tempted to fly straight to the States and demand a copy from Maas herself. A restraining order wouldn’t look great on my record, though. So that plan is out the window.

And 10. The Science Fiction:

 

A precious book you would permanently sacrifice to aliens for the good of mankind:

This is a really tough one, because I hate giving away books for ANY reason. But if I could save the world by giving away one book I absolutely love, it would be Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell. This is my favourite book of all time, so if the existence of humanity depended on my giving this book away, it would be the ultimate sacrifice. Hopefully the aliens would appreciate- *sniffles*- such a gesture.
