Hey there! Happy Saturday! I haven’t done a tag/award in absolutely AGES and I have fallen behind so much. So thank you to all the people who have tagged and nominated me for various things, I love you all and appreciate it, and will slowly work my way through all of them this summer. Hopefully. Anyways, I was nominated for The Unique Blogger Award by two amazing bloggers: Laura @thebookcorps and Angelica @The Book Cover Girls! Laura’s (thebookrorps) Questions:

1. I know we’re all mainly YA readers on here, so what is your favourite adult fiction novel?

Oh my goodness, whenever the words “favourite” and “novel” are put together I just break into a cold sweat and start twitching. It’s so hard to choose just one favourite book in any category or of any genre, but in the spirit of being a good noodle (noodle? 😀 ) I’ll just run to my Goodreads shelf and be right back….

….And I’m back. I’ve decided to go for one of my favourites, and it is The Wonder by Emma Donoghue. It’s a recent read, and I was honestly stunned by how much I loved this book. The novel follows an English nurse who is called to Ireland to investigate a mysterious child who has somehow survived for several months without eating a thing. The story is unnerving, exciting and had me utterly confused but eager to learn the truth. I honestly love this book so much, and if you’re interested, here’s some (shameless) advertising for my review of the novel: The Wonder

2. Enough with the heroes, they’re boring. Who is your favourite book villain?

Ohhh, interesting. Well, this is an easy one. My favourite villain is definitely Voldemort from the Harry Potter series. Like many people, I read these books when I was quite young and Voldemort’s character naturally terrified me. Not only do I love how scarily powerful and evil he is, I also love the complexity of his character, his backstory and his overall connection with Harry. I think I’ll always be a little scared of that dude 😀

3. Will you ever lend a book to a friend? Why/Why not? Any horror stories?

I am probably the worst person to ask for a book, because I rarely, rarely lend out books. Seriously, I guard my books like my dog guards his chew toys, with much baring of teeth and a swift retreat into a corner, followed by more teeth baring. I don’t mean to be so stingy with my books, but I can’t help it. I’ve only trusted one person with my books (apart from my sister) who was a close friend and also an avid reader. I think I have to get to know a person extremely well, and know that they are completely trustworthy, before I lend out my precious babies books. And no, I have no horror stories to tell because like I said, I’m super protective!

Angelica’s (The Book Cover Girls) Questions:

1. What is the longest book you’ve ever read and how long did it take you to read it?

I think the longest book I’ve read is Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell. My copy had around 900-1000 pages, I can’t really remember at the top of my head. The first time I read it, it was on a holiday abroad and it took me about four days because I literally could not put it down!

2. If you could rewrite a book to make it to your liking, would you? Which book and why?

I think I would definitely rewrite Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. I said in my review that I found the style of the book amazing but was super let down by the writing, which was too childish, YA-like and trying too hard to be comical/witty when it could have been serious. If I could rewrite Illuminae, I would definitely keep the style – the file reports, government emails, web pages etc, but I would make them more serious, and sounding less YA-like, because I think it would make an amazingly terrifying read. Just my thoughts.

 

3. What is your least favorite book of all time and why does it suck so much?

Ehhh….It’s hard to pinpoint one book that I have such intense dislike for. Two seconds, I have to take a trip back to Goodreads…

…Okay, got it. I really, really hate Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. I just really hated the depravity of the protagonist; even though I know that we’re supposed to be aware of the unreliability of his narration and wild justifications of his actions, and that the writing is supposed to reflect that, I honestly hated the writing, the creepy story, the horrible narrator, everything. As a book that is supposed to make you Think with a capital T, the only thoughts I had were that I hated the novel. I’m in the minority on that one 🙂
