Harry Potter Tag!

It’s Tuesday, I’m back to college and I’m literally wishing I’ll wake up tomorrow and it will be the start of Christmas break again. Oh well.

In other news, I was tagged by the fabulous blogger Rendz (Reading With Rendz) for this tag (thank you for that, you rock!) and I immediately did a huge spit-take with my scalding mouthful of tea, because being tagged is awesome, but, even bigger than that, I am a GINORMOUS fan of Harry Potter. The fact that there’s a tag for HP? #SlayMe

Of course, after getting over the initial excitement, I put my thinking caps on and perused through my extensive Goodreads list to find the perfect books for the tag. Without further ado, let’s get into it:

1. A book whose theme you found interesting. But would like to rewrite it:

The Night Circus- Erin Morgenstern

Possibly a bit of an unpopular opinion, but regardless of that, I wasn’t happy with how this book turned out. A circus that arrives in the dead of night, full of wonders seemingly out of this world. Two young magicians are set against each other in a duel of magic, where there can only be one winner. My problem with this book was that it went nowhere; while the writing was beautiful and the descriptions of the circus exciting, the “magic duel”, which could have been amazing, simply wasn’t.

 

2. The first book in a series that got you hooked:

I Am Number Four- Pittacus Lore, Clockwork Angel- Cassandra Clare

It is literally impossible for me to choose just one book for this, so I chose two (I know, I know. But be grateful that I stuck to JUST two). I Am Number Four  wasn’t greatly received by many people, but I love it. It has bad-ass alien teens with powers. What else could you ask for? As for Clockwork Angel, it’s part of a prequel series set in 1878, following some bad-ass demon hunters. It’s awesome.

 

3. A book you wish you could have right now:

A Court of Wings and Ruin- Sarah J. Maas

This was another tough one, because most of the books I want to read are sitting in my room, collecting a worrying amount of dust. So for this, I’m going for a FAR future release. I disliked the first book of the series, read the second and LOVED IT SO MUCH, so now I’m suffering from withdrawal and want to read book three ASAP. I’m waiting impatiently for it, rocking slowly back and forth all the while.

 

4. A killer book. Both senses. Take it as you’d like:

Looking For JJ- Anne Cassidy

Not going to say much because I don’t want to spoil anything, but this is one of my favourite books. It haunted me, gave me all kinds of feels, and it’s definitely a killer book (both senses). *winky face*

 

5. A book you found really confusing: 

Red Rising- Pierce Brown

I really don’t like the feeling when I’m the only one who doesn’t enjoy a book that everyone seems to love, but that’s just the case with this book. I was so confused by the societal system in this book; there’s a hierarchy arranged in colours, and that’s ok. But then there are subcategories named after Ancient Greek Gods and Goddesses and there was just so much to remember, I got completely lost.

 

6. Your spirit animal book:

I want to say Harry Potter but that’s cheating. So I’ll go with:

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children- Ransom Riggs

What can I say? When I read this book, I was getting over a bad reading slump. And it brought me back from the brink with an amazingly fresh idea. The Peculiar children are so cool!

 

7. A dark and twisted book:

Intensity- Dean Koontz

If you’re not a fan of horror, you won’t like this book. It follows a young woman on the run from a serial killer. Too dark? Sorry, I like my horror  🙂 If this ain’t dark, I don’t know what is.

 

8. A book that surprised you in a great way. Reveals to be more than it is:

This is Not a Test- Courtney Summers

I don’t know what I expected from this YA zombie novel, but it ended up being super exciting, chilling, and completely surpassed anything I imagined. It’s so much deeper than I thought it would be. The genre’s overdone in YA, but this book is worth the read.
